LEE & LOW'S NEW VOICES AWARD

A Writing Contest for Minority Writers

What you need to know:

* No entry fee

*  Winner will receive standard publication contract and $1000. An honor winner will receive $500.

*  Open to writers of color who have not published a children's picture book (entrant may have published in some other genre such as YA fiction, children's magazines, or non-fiction).

*  Manuscripts should address the needs of children of color

*  Fiction, non-fiction and poetry for ages 5-12 will be considered. (Folklore and animal stories will not be considered.)

*  Manuscripts should be no more than 1500 words in length (picture book length).

Up to 2 submissions per entrant will be accepted.

*  Submissions must be postmarked no later than September 30, 2011

  2. Sound like a fantastic opportunity. I'm guessing they don't count we Irish as writers of color.
