THE CURSE OF MAGORIA
Paul Stewart
Usborne Books
126 pp.
Ages 8-12

Ryan's huge excitement at arriving on holiday in Oberdorf soon evaporates after a terrifying nightmare in which he is trapped and hunted. In this breathtaking tale of magic and adventure, Ryan's nightmare becomes a horrifying reality as he struggles to escape the deadly dance of time and defy the ancient Curse of Magoria.

MY REVIEW:

This book by Paul Stewart, author of The Edge Chronicles, is the perfect pick for the reluctant reader who loves a action and suspense, but may not have the patience or ability to wade through a longer more detailed tome.  Ryan's adventure begins the moment he arrives in his Uncle's hometown in Germany and doesn't stop until the very last sentence on the last page. The language is simple and straightforward, the chapters short and exciting. I found myself turning page after page eager to see what happened next. For adults or older readers, the plot is a bit predictable, but younger readers will love all the surprises and challenges Ryan must face to save the town from the evil curse. I can confidently recommend this book to teachers and parents alike. It would make a great addition to any home or classroom library.

  7. I can't believe I haven't heard of this book. Sounds so exciting! I'm familiar with Usborne's baby books and nonfiction, but not MG fiction.
