LIONEL'S GRAND ADVENTURE
Paul R. Hewlett
Amazon Digital
31 pp.
Ages 6 to 10 years

Lionel’s Grand Adventure is a beginning chapter book about a twelve year old boy who is constantly subjected to ridicule from his Mom and older brother. Things change when he makes a seemingly innocent discovery. The magical, yet unpredictable, Three-Toed-Potbellied Walbaun foot takes him on the adventure of a lifetime. Explore Lionel’s adventure and discover the wonderful world of the magical Walbaun foot and the lesson that it helps teach Lionel. My book helps children who want to feel better about themselves. It helps them find a role model. Lionel is very comfortable with who he is despite his physical shortcomings and his bullying Mom and older brother.

The LIONEL series by Paul Hewlett are great little books that teach kids important lessons woven into fun stories they will love. The author visits with us today to tell us a little about Lionel. Be sure to check out how to win a copy below!

INTERVIEW:

  1. Describe Lionel's Grand Adventure in one sentence.
Be careful what you wish for…You never know what might happen!

2. Lionel has his very own series. What inspired you to write these stories?

My inspiration comes from my desire to get children to read. The benefits of reading are nearly countless. I know it can be difficult to get children to read, especially today with social media and electronics fighting for a child’s attention. I hope in reading Lionel that readers will realize what is important. I try to incorporate a lesson in each of the books in a fun way. By combining some magic, fantasy, humor, all through the eyes of a main character everyone can relate to, young readers, even reluctant ones, may just be inspired to read.

3. What books did you enjoy reading as a kid?

After I outgrew Beetle Bailey and Sad Sack cartoons, I loved middle grade mysteries. My favorites were Encyclopedia Brown and The Three Investigators.

4. What is the most interesting place you've ever visited?

Strangely enough it would be Eglin AFB in Florida where I was stationed when I was in the Air Force. Being that up close and personal to F-15 fighter jets is maybe the most incredible, interesting thing I have ever seen. In addition to working day in and day out around F-15’s Eglin is home to the McKinley Climactic Laboratory which simulates every conceivable condition and climate. Needless to say there were always interesting and cool aircraft flying around the base.

5. If you could spend a day as any literary character, who would you be?

Gabriel Allon. I love Daniel Silva’s character. He is such a great character. I love the human element, the searching for peace, quiet, and happiness. Yet the thrilling life he leads, being able to stare down danger and conquer it is incredible to me. When small problems arise, I find myself feeling like a deer in the headlights so to be able to operate in such dangerous situations would be quite a thrill. I would also love to be able to spend some time restoring fabulous art pieces.

6.  What can we expect from  you in the near future?

I’m hard at work on the next book in the Lionel’s Grand Adventure series. I am moving closer to putting the 1st book in the series in paperback, complete with chapter illustrations, so that’s been exciting. I’m also working on a middle grade novel, but I’m not sure that the word “near future” would apply to that.

    1. Hi Jane,
Thanks for stopping by and sharing. I think Bertha should be in charge of taking care of Lionel, instead of his Bertha (she gives Bertha's a bad name).
